SHORT AND SWEET.
The Coronation Ball is a Young Adult Fantasy Novelette by Australian author Melanie Cellier, it is a part of The Four Kingdoms Series along with 5 books and 2 novellas, it is the retelling of a very well-known tale Cinderella.
This Story follows Hanna a young apprentice on her way to becoming a pastry chef in the kingdom of Northhelm. Just as her dreams seem to be within her reach things fall apart and so does she. Between you and I Hanna gets some magical help, now all she has to do is save her prince charming, her future, and her happily ever after.
This is the type of story you’d read to relax or for a break. It is nothing too intense and a pretty light read. As a Cinderella Retelling, it is quite predictable, with not a lot of twists and turns, I completed it in 30 – 45 minutes. It’s super sweet.
My suggestion is definitely to read The Princess Fugitive before this, it will give more light to Hanna’s backstory. To help you decide The Princess Fugitive: A Retelling of The Little Red Riding Hood (The Four Kingdoms Book #2) (Book Review). Melanie has an extra about her as well on her website here.
Hanna is relatable, to say the least, not the part where her brother’s a king, but dealing with douchebags in professional settings. At first, it seemed like she was a ‘doormat’ but the fact was she was just trying to do her best and did, in fact, have a backbone.
Stephen, the Prince Charming, was quite the charmer. I love characters with a sense of humor there is not much to say really.
The Villain, gosh was she annoying, I wasn’t satisfied with someone not giving her a piece of their mind. Did that sentence even make sense? I would have loved to see someone at least berate her on paper.
It is suitable for tweens and above, just kissing, and violence is minimal.
In a nutshell not the type of book you would remember forever but it is good while it lasts I wouldn’t mind reading it again. It has a sweet romance, a good plot, a good pace (obviously), and a happily ever after.
This is my shortest blog post yet, a short post for a short book, I suppose.
Until next time.
Yours,
A Fellow Bookworm
