A love story but backward…
Marriage for One by Ella Maise is contemporary fiction, it is an adult romance.
Jack and Rose did everything backward, got married then fell in love. Jack proposed the very first time he talked to Rose, what he proposed was a business deal packaged as a Marriage. Desperate to get her life back on track Rose agreed and this is their story.
There was no plot whatsoever, just their daily life and love story, so there is nothing to comment on there. The pace was slow as it was a slow-burn romance. It is a dual-point-of-view book.
Coming to the characters.
Rose, was the sunshine here, she’d had a tough life and was a strong woman, and so very cute, she had so many little quirks. Of course, she had her flaws as well she had trouble accepting help from others. In the story, her husband has a ‘secret’, and when it is revealed I think she overreacted and was a bit annoyed at how she was treating him, at the end he told her everything there was no miscommunication, and even though a bit stalkerish at the start he helped her again and again, he was always her rock. I particularly liked her passion and dedication to her coffee shop.
Jack, the Grumpy, his character was done so well, usually in Grumpy X Sunshine I end up disliking the Grumpy, but he was a cute grumpy, he was arrogant but not exactly mean. He went through tremendous development. The means he used to get with Rose were not right and he could have done it in a better way. Still, his heart was in the right place.
The entire romance was adorable, him being sweet just to her and changing his ways for the better due to her, what more can a girl ask for. Of course, Rose’s efforts should not go uncredited she brought him out of his shell. Many cute moments I had butterflies in my stomach quite a few times.
So, this is an adult book, and it has a lot of intimate scenes, I straight out skipped them because I am not a fan of Spice and well I didn’t know it was going to be here. Call me old-fashioned but I prefer/ like and am more comfortable with clean books, & romance, or closed-door romance. That is one of the reasons for the rating I’ll give. (To the book: It’s not you, it’s me.😜)
Similarly, I found the book a bit too long some 500 pages. In my opinion for a book with Romance as the main plot that is way too much. Again this might be a me thing, because I prefer and like books with romance as a sub-plot. As I reached the end I got bored and skimmed through the last few pages.
So in a nutshell, 3.5 stars, a cute slow-burn romance, well-fleshed-out main characters, who complement each other’s personalities really well, is a slow book and has spice.
Until next time,
Yours,
