“Demon pox, oh demon pox
Just how is it acquired?
One must go down to the bad part of town
Until one is very tired.
Demon pox, oh demon pox, I had it all along—
Not the pox, you foolish blocks,
I mean this very song—
For I was right, and you were wrong!”
– William Herondale (Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare)
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare is a historical fiction, a young adult fantasy, and the second book in The Infernal Devices trilogy. The Infernal Devices is the prequel to The Mortal Instruments.
THE PLOT
In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, but her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.”

This book had me hooked from the epilogue/last chapter of the last book, the prologue further increased the hooked-ness. The plot was good, kind of fast-paced, and so much happened like so much. It dived into some characters’ past (read: important characters’ really interesting pasts).
THE CHARACTERS:
Tessa is the same as she was in the last book, really confused between the two boys and her own feelings, She is as brave and strong as ever, Nate’s betrayal has left its mark, of course, it did, this is a spoiler but this young lady who thought that weapons and bloodlust ain’t for a woman is learning how to fight (yay!).
Jem, oh my sweet boy, he is so devoted and sweet to Tessa, we get to see a more ahem different sort of intimate side of him 😉. Still not on his team when it comes to the triangle though.
Will, I knew all my hopes for character development wouldn’t go in vain, we finally got the backstory, I feel so bad for him, I just know he is in for more heartbreak. If you haven’t already guessed I want Tessa to choose him.
This is such a well-written love triangle, everyone is so respectful, and each person is thinking about the other two, and wants them to be happy, this is how love triangles should be written, a tragic, sad part of the story, but nobody becomes unlikable or loses their self-respect. It is just so beautiful.

I love the bond between Will and Jem, it is so pure. Henry and Charlotte finally communicated properly and Sophie’s storyline made me so happy.
This one went a tad bit up on intimacy, though there are no adult scenes and there is violence so
14-15 + age rating.

Four stars, the romance was good, the characters were good, the plot and storyline were amazing, and a well-done love triangle.
That’s all for now,
